ERIKO YAMANAKA

I like simplicity.
But "simple" can be "complex" and also opposite.
"Small" can be "big" and also opposite. Etc.
That is up to people to see artwork.

My painting is about simple constructed geometric relationship.
I use objects to set up still life to see and use for my painting.
I mostly avoid literary and I don't want to give too much information and explanation,
because it will interfere the imagination.

I hope to keep freshness and an unconventional look and quality for my works.
My concern is how can my works to be free from conventionality.
I hope to make timeless pieces.

When I paint I like to see things.
And I paint almost only under natural light.
Because it makes color more beautiful.
Even though I paint unnatural objects.
Light plays an important and enigmatic elusive role.

When I keep looking at motifs for many hours under natural light,
Sometime I will experience some kind of mysterious moment which gives me awe.
I am sure many artists experience it.
